Compress video without uploading it

Make videos much smaller without them looking any different, or hit an exact size for Discord, email or an upload form. It all happens on your own computer, so even a 2 GB file starts right away and stays private.

How it works

  1. Drop your videoMP4, MOV, WEBM or MKV, any size. It stays on your computer.
  2. Choose how"Smaller, same look" for a big saving without visible loss, or an exact size such as 10 MB. You see the result before you start.
  3. DownloadPreview the result, then save it. Exact sizes are checked before you download.

Smaller, and it looks the same

Phones save video with far more data than you can see, because they have to record in real time. Compressing it again usually makes the file 50–80% smaller with no visible difference: in our tests a one-minute 1080p phone-style clip came out 59% smaller and looked the same. 4K video is brought down to 1080p, which is what almost every phone, laptop and social site shows anyway.

That is the default here: drop a video and you see the expected size before you start, for example "around 85 MB, 74% smaller".

Or pick an exact size

When a limit matters, such as 10 MB for Discord or 15 MB for email, choose Exact size. The tool picks the best picture size that fits and checks the file before you download. If it cannot get under your size, or the size is too small for the video's length, it tells you instead of producing a blurry mess.

Why no upload makes it faster

A one-minute phone video is often 100–200 MB. Online compressors must upload all of that before they start, then you download the result. Here your own computer compresses the video straight from your disk. In Chrome on the laptops we tested, a one-minute 1080p video took 13–19 seconds; a computer without a graphics chip took about 40 seconds.

Why your video never leaves your computer

Online video tools upload your file to their servers, process it there, and send it back. That is slow for big videos and costs them money for every minute, so free plans cap your file size or add watermarks, and your video sits on someone else's computer.

Here your own computer does the work, inside this tab. Nothing is uploaded, so there is nothing to cap: no file size limit, no daily limit and no watermark.

Questions

Is there a file size limit?

No. The largest video we tested was a 2.35 GB, 10-minute 4K film, and it worked fine.

Does it add a watermark?

No. Nothing is added to your video.

Which size should I pick?

As large as your destination allows: bigger means sharper. Discord accepts 10 MB without Nitro, and about 15 MB is safe for most email services.

Is it really free?

Yes. Your computer does the work, so a video costs us nothing to process. No account, no watermark, no limits.

Is my video uploaded?

No. It is processed inside this browser tab and saved straight back to your computer.

Which browsers work?

Recent Chrome, Edge and Safari on a computer. Chrome and Edge are fastest on most machines. Phones work for short videos.

How long does it take?

In Chrome, a one-minute 1080p video took 13–19 seconds on the laptops we tested and about 40 seconds on a computer without a graphics chip. Safari can be slower.

Can I close the tab while it works?

Keep the tab open and in front until it finishes. Browsers slow down background tabs.
